Welcome to Boggabri

Boggabri was proclaimed a township in 1860, but came into its own in 1882 with the opening of the railway. Today Boggabri, located on the Kamilaroi Highway east of Narrabri, is a historic small country town with big community spirit offering a unique country lifestyle. With a rich agricultural history and several recently opened coal mines, the town is set for further expansion. The town boasts a nine hole golf course and an RSL Club. A modern motel, caravan park with cabins and a hotel that provides accommodation in the town while fuel and motor repairs are also available. The main business area of Boggabri has over the years been found in three different streets. This makes for a interesting mix of architecture which can be explored with a walk along the Boggabri Heritage Trail.


Boggabri is a small town in north-western New South Wales, Australia. It is part of Narrabri Shire and lies between Gunnedah and Narrabri on the Kamilaroi Highway. At the 2016 census, the town had a population of 856 people.

Tourism

Boggabri main tourist attraction is Gin's Leap .and Dripping Rock among a number of other sites including the historical museum, Barbers Lagoon, Nelson's Honey and the famous Drovers Campfire winner of the NSW Tourism Award.

Industry

The Boggabri District is a diversified industy area it produces a variety of agricultural commodities including cotton, wheat, beef cattle and sheep and pulse crops.  It has an emerging mining industry

History

The town site was 20 km south and settled in the 1830s, it was relocated after a flood washed it away in the 1850s. Boggabri comes from Gamilaraay bagaaybaraay, literally "having creeks" It is likely a reference to the Namoi River,

A small country town in north-western New South Wales, with a population of 856 at last count, has welcomed news that a major employer in the town, Idemitsu Coal Boggabri, will construct a childcare centre in the town, with the six-month build expected to start in May, local news source The Northern Daily Leader has reported.

Construction company Greg Bartlett Construction will build the facility, which was designed by Hill Lockart Architects, who will manage the construction process. 

Local resident Catherine Collyer welcomed the news, telling The Northern Daily Leader that many locals have been working tirelessly for nearly a decade to secure an early childhood education and care facility in the town.

Drought-weakened Namoi Cotton has re-jigged its marketing joint venture with multinational commodities giant Louis Dreyfus Company, effectively giving its partner control of day-to-day management of Namoi's trading and marketing and warehousing activities.

In what is expected to be the last in a six-month run of sweeping restructuring and staff shedding actions at the NSW-Queensland ginning and marketing company, the latest Namoi business shakeup aims to bolster the trading business's financial capacity to weather volatile cotton and currency markets.

National Women's Business Scholarship

Diversity and Inclusion advocate Inspiring Rare Birds has secured funding from the Australian Government's Office for Women to support 90 National Women's Business Scholarships.

The 12-month program will support women business owners from marginal demographics by way of:

  • A hand-selected mentor to provide 2 hours of 1:1 guidance, support and accountability every month for 9 months to meet their individual goals and grow their business;
  • 8 x 1-hour Business Education Masterclasses;
  • Full support from a dedicated Rare Birds program manager;
  • Connection to a vibrant and supportive community of like-minded business owners and entrepreneurs.

Demographics supported are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; Migrant or Refugee; Remote, Regional or Rural location; or Living with a Disability. Eligible women are encouraged to apply before July 17, 2020
